Courses and Classes
You can use Compass-360 to track and manage Courses and Classes that your organization might offer.
To get started, open the Courses and Classes module.
Add a Venue
If you host you classes at specific venues, you can add those venues in Compass-360 so that you can indicate where each class will take place.
At the bottom of the window, click Manage Venues, then click Add Venue.
Add the various details of the venue. The only required field is the venue name.
Add a Course
Next you will want to add the courses that you offer. This is the list of the general courses (EX: CPR 101) that you can later add individual Course Sessions with their own session meeting time and dates.
At the bottom, click Manage Courses, then click Add Course.
A course is the parent to individual classes. Enter the details of your new course.
Fields
Name
Enter the name of your course. An example could be CPR 101.
Description
Give this course a short description.
Instructor
If there is a single instructor that will teach all sessions of this course, search or create a constituent.
Tip: Click the + icon to quickly add a new constituent.
Co-Instructor
Add a co-instructor constituent if there is one.
Status
Set the status of the course.
- Active
- In-Active
- Cancelled
- Completed
- Unknown
Type
Set the type of class.
- Group
- Individual
- Organization
Cost
The cost to attend the course.
Supply Cost
For internally tracking your course margins.
Min & Max Age
Set the min and max age for a course attendee.
You can also enter details on the course and list supplies on the Details and Supplies tabs.
Add a Course Session
Once you have added your courses, you can add individual sessions that will be held for this course by adding a session. At the bottom of the module, click the Add Session button.
Enter the details of your new course session.
Fields
Course
Select the course that this session will be associated with.
Alias
An internal nickname to help identify this course session.
Linked To
Select a constituent if this session is linked to a one.
Instructor & Co-Instructor
Select the instructors for this session.
Main Contact
If you host this course session at an outside venue for, use this field to link to the Main Contact at that venue.
Coordinator
Select a constituent if this course has a special coordinator.
Venue
Select the pre-defined venue where this session will take place.
Pay Rate
Set the payment rate the instructor will earn for this session.
Status
Set the status of the session.

- In-Active
- Cancelled
- Completed
- Unknown
Type
Set the type of the session.
- Group
- Individual
- Organization
Start Date & End Date
Set the start date and end date of the session.
Min & Max Attendees
Set the min and max attendee count for this session.
Volunteer Count
Enter the number of volunteers scheduled for the class.
Track Attendees & Volunteers
If you need to track the attendees and volunteers for a Course Session, you can do so by clicking on the Attendees and Volunteers button in the Course Session.
Here you can add attendees, volunteers, or wait listers. All attendees will be a constituent. Select or add new as needed.
Tracking Expenses
You can use the Expenses section to track all expenses for the Course Session.
Click on the + icon to add a new expense, click on the x icon to remove.
Fields
Expense Line
A description of the expense.
Budget
Enter the amount you have budgeted for this line item.
Actual
Enter the actual cost for the line item.
Available
The Available column will be calculate by subtracting the Actual column from the Budget column.
Adding Classes to a Course Session
If you need to track individual class meetings within a course session, you can do so by adding classes.
Open the session you wish to add a class to and click Add Class at the bottom of the window.
Fields
Taught By
Will be set as the teacher of the course.
Guest Instructor
If there is a guest instructor for this class, select that constituent.
Class Date/Time
Set the date and time that this class will meet.
Status
Set the status of the class as:
- Scheduled
- Completed
- Canceled
Pay Rate
If you will pay the instructor for teaching the class, add the pay rate here.
Paid
You can use this field to track when you have paid your instructor for teaching the class.
Substitute Instructor
If this class requires an instructor, set that constituent here.
